AWARDS

Good sportsmanship and courteous behaviour is expected of teachers, competitors, parents and spectators at all times!

1) Absolutely NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED.

 

2) Videotaping of your studio’s routine is allowed. Videotaping of another studio’s routine is prohibited. Please remember to stay well back from the stage so you don’t distract the dancers.

 

3) Parents are welcome in the dressing rooms, but NOT BACKSTAGE or the REHEARSAL room PLEASE!

 

4) The contestants will be judged during their routines and given a mark and/or written comments. Each instructor will be able to pick up a thumb drive and/or email of the adjudications at the end of each day.

 

  • A MARK OF 91-100 IS ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH GOLD

  • A MARK OF 85-90 IS ELIGIBLE FOR GOLD

  • A MARK OF 80-84 IS ELIGIBLE FOR SILVER

  • A MARK OF 75-79 IS ELIGIBLE FOR BRONZE

 

There will be a maximum of 3 places awarded per category: (1st, 2nd & 3rd) 1st place goes to the routine with the highest mark in that category. It DOES NOT GUARANTEE A GOLD CHARM!! (e.g.) If there are 3 dancers with marks of 83, 82 & 79, the 83 will be 1st place with a silver (as that mark rates). The 82 would come 2nd and also receive a silver charm and the 79 would be 3rd with a bronze charm. TIES MAY BE AWARDED!!

  

5) ALL DECISIONS of the Adjudicator ARE FINAL!! Approaching the Adjudicator is prohibited. Any complaints must be given to a member of the DANCEWORKS Committee.

  

6) CHARMS will be given to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in solos, duos, trios, groups and productions.

 

7) HIGHSCORE AWARDS: Will be presented at the end of the competition as follows:

 

These awards include all forms of dance except  acro. The award for Junior Highscore Solo goes to the highest scoring routine performed by a dancer 10 & under (includes all solos in that age group - Tap, Jazz, Variety, etc.) The award for Senior Highscore Large Group is awarded to the highest scoring routine performed by a large group in the 15-19 categories (Includes all 15-16 & 17-19 large group routines - Tap, Variety, Ballet, etc.) and so on. Overall Highscore award winner will be excluded from the Highscore award and the runner up will receive the award.

 

JUNIOR HIGHSCORE: (Includes all dancers ages 10 & under)

 

  • JUNIOR HIGHSCORE SOLO - trophy & $50.00 cash award

  • JUNIOR HIGHSCORE DUO/TRIO - trophy & $60.00 cash award

  • JUNIOR HIGHSCORE SMALL GROUP - trophy & $75.00 cash award

  • JUNIOR HIGHSCORE LARGE GROUP - trophy & $100.00 cash award

INTERMEDIATE HIGHSCORE: (Includes all dancers ages 11- 14)

  • INTERMEDIATE HIGHSCORE SOLO - trophy & $60.00 cash award

  • INTERMEDIATE HIGHSCORE DUO/TRIO - trophy & $70.00 cash award

  • INTERMEDIATE HIGHSCORE SMALL GROUP - trophy & $100.00 cash award

  • INTERMEDIATE HIGHSCORE LARGE GROUP - trophy & $125.00 cash award

SENIOR HIGHSCORE: (Includes all dancers ages 15-19)

  • SENIOR HIGHSCORE SOLO - trophy & $70.00 cash award

  • SENIOR HIGHSCORE DUO/TRIO - trophy & $80.00 cash award

  • SENIOR HIGHSCORE SMALL GROUP - trophy & $125.00 cash award

  • SENIOR HIGHSCORE LARGE GROUP - trophy & $150.00 cash award

ACRO OVERALL HIGHSCORE – trophy & $100 cash award

OVERALL HIGHSCORE – trophy & $200 cash award

PRODUCTION:  This is a cash award of $200.00 awarded to the highscore of the production competitors. 

  

8) SHOWMANSHIP AWARD: This trophy and a cash award of $100.00 will also be presented at the end of the competition. It will be awarded to the ADJUDICATOR’S CHOICE for any ROUTINE OTHER THAN A SOLO that demonstrates the best “showmanship”. The emphasis will be on ARTISTIC PRESENTATION, selection of MUSIC & COSTUMES, and ENERGY OF THE DANCERS.

  

9) MOST ENTERTAINING: This trophy and a cash award of $100.00 will also be presented at the end of the competition.  It will be awarded to the ADJUDICATOR’S CHOICE for any ROUTINE that has the most entertainment value in the adjudicator’s opinion.  The emphasis will be on the ENTERTAINMENT VALUE, not necessarily the most technical or accomplished dance but a routine that was interesting, amusing and/or dramatic. 

  

10) JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE & SENIOR RECOGNITION: These awards will be presented at the end of the competition. The choices are not based on any mark attained by ADJUDICATOR’S SELECTION. The Adjudicator will pick one dancer from each age group that did not receive Highscore solo award, but was a top contender.
