Meet the Committee
A little history...
Kimberley Danceworks was started in 1994 by a group of 5 mothers of local dancers who saw a need for an affordable competition in the area. The goal was to provide a competition that the Kootenay and surrounding area studios could easily travel to with no limit on how many dancers they could register. The competition was, and still is, run by a group of volunteers; some are parents, or grandparents, of dancers and others are simply ex-dancer parents, okay………… realistically……………….ex Dance Moms!
Originally the competition was held in Kimberley out of the McKim Middle School Auditorium but in 1999 the roof collapsed which required the committee to find an alternate venue to hold the competition. The Key City Theater was the venue that seemed the best fit and allowed the competition to keep running. An event conflict prompted another venue change to the Kimberley Conference center, a better fit considering our roots.
Kimberley Danceworks is a non-profit society so all money raised by entry fees is put right back into the competition.
The original committee was made up of Debbie Wright, Debbie Bannister, Kim Murphy, Wendy Nowicki and Susan Crowe.
Members of the current committee are Jillian Barrett, Joanne Kitt, Aileen Boyd, Ginnesa Redding, Karla MacLeod, Sharon Gilbert, Michelle Mattix and Cori-Lynn Toth.
We must be doing something right, we haven’t killed each other yet ;)
